Trial: American History in Video

The University of Hawaii at Manoa Library is currently trialing American History in Video, a streaming video service from Alexander Street Press. The trial is active through Oct. 24, 2010. Click here to access the trial.

American History in Video provides the largest and richest collection of video available online for the study of American history, with 2,000 hours and more than 5,000 titles on completion. The collection allows students and researchers to analyze historical events, and their presentation over time, through commercial and governmental newsreels, archival footage, public affairs footage, and important documentaries. This release now provides 4,848 titles, equaling approximately 1,215 hours.

Upcoming outages

A couple of resources are scheduled for downtime the next two weeks.

ScienceDirect, the online platform for Elsevier journals, will be down for scheduled maintenance this Saturday, Aug. 28, starting at 1:30 a.m. Hawaii time. The outage is scheduled to last until 10:30 a.m. HST of the same day. The University of Hawaii at Manoa currently has access to approximately 2,000 journals via ScienceDirect.

EBL, or eBook Library, will be down for maintenance Thursday, Sept. 2, beginning at 8 a.m. Hawaii time. The outage is scheduled to last until 10 a.m. HST. The UHM Library has purchased access to about 60 e-books via EBL.

Two trial resources

The University of Hawaii at Manoa Library currently has free trials to two resources.

Search or browse through more than 10 million articles carried by the newspaper since its inaugural issue in 1874. Searchable texts of the articles after 1986 to present. Also includes the Daily Yomiuri (English), and Biographical database includes 26,000 contemporary persons in many fields who are linked to related news articles.

Nature Protocols
Trial through Sept. 30, 2010.

Nature Protocols is an online resource for protocols, including authoritative, peer-reviewed Nature Protocols and an interactive Protocols Network.
