Hawaii Newspaper Index outage

The Hawaii Newspaper Index, a free service of the Hawaii State Public Library System, is currently down. According to HSL, they are experiencing network outages that are affecting the host server. Their telcom folks are looking into it, but do not have a good estimate as to when the database will come back online.

ARTstor outage this weekend

ARTstor will be performing scheduled maintenance this Saturday, May 1, from 3 to 8 p.m. HST. The digital library will be unavailable during this time.

ARTstor is a digital library of nearly one million images in the areas of art, architecture, the humanities, and social sciences with a set of tools to view, present, and manage images for research and pedagogical purposes.

New database: Films On Demand

The Library has begun a subscription to Films on Demand, which provides streaming access to educational videos in the humanities, social and natural sciences, business and health.

New database: Pubget

The UH Manoa Library is now an active institution in Pubget, a search engine for PDFs in the life sciences. It indexes nearly 20 million life science research documents, including those in PubMed and arXiv.

When you search Pubget, it immediately delivers the PDF of all articles available to you via the Library. If an article is not electronically available via the Library, it provides you with other options for finding the article.

ScienceDirect outage this weekend

ScienceDirect, the online platform for Elsevier journals, will be down for scheduled maintenance this Saturday, March 13, starting at 5:30 p.m. Hawaii time. The outage is scheduled to last until 2 a.m. HST Sunday. The University of Hawaii at Manoa currently has access to approximately 2,000 journals via ScienceDirect.

Trial: Johns Hopkins Guide to Literary Theory & Criticism

The Library has a free trial to the Johns Hopkins Guide to Literary Theory & Criticism. It includes more than 240 alphabetically arranged entries on critics and theorists, critical schools and movements, and the critical and theoretical innovations of specific countries and historical periods.

Trial expires March 11, 2010.

The outage is scheduled to last until 3 p.m. of the same day. The University of Hawaii at Manoa currently has access to approximately 2,000 journals via ScienceDirect.
